If you have an old fashioned open fireplace and have always wondered “there has got to be a better way to ‘do’ fire” here is your answer.
A unique fireplace grate made be Grate Wall of Fire stacks the firewood on a slanting grate. This self feeding arrangements also maximizes the room’s exposure to the orange coals. Since coals provide the majority of an open fireplace’s heat, we finally have a grate that might actually make burning wood in a fireplace worth the effort.
Since the burning wood is above the coal bed, it draws air into the coals maximizing their combustion. Air flows into the coals, up to the wood and out the top as the flames fuel the draft.
You might think this would burn wood too quickly, but the wood is constantly pushed together and down into the coals limiting the burn rate.
This combination of physics makes for the perfect fireplace grate. It is quite simply the simplest most ingenious thing to happen to fireplace fire I have ever seen. Here is ours in operation…
The cheapo Heatilator fireplace is designed to do one thing and one thing only… not burn your house down during the burning of wood. It is not designed to heat. It is designed to survive and that’s about it. This grate turns this otherwise useless fireplace into something quite a bit more functional.
You will love not having to arrange and poke the fire endlessly as the wood self feeds.
For our Heatilator fireplace, we ordered the optional thick metal backplate to keep the very hot coals and fire from overheating the back wall. This was well worth it.
Grates were never meant to burn wood, only coal. However, this design makes wood fireplace grates sensible.
Thank you Grate Wall of Fire. I am evaluating your firepot for my backyard needs.
